The Sixth Season (1957)

Episodes #92 - #104

92. THE LAST KNIGHT

Superman is covered with dust after he crashes through the wall to confront Sir Arthur. The scene immediately following this one shows a dustless Superman being shot at by Sir Arthur. An observation: Even though Lois asks, Superman never explains why he waited so long to rescue everyone. (Thanks, Guy Chiapparino)

When Superman takes off his armor helmet, his hair is matted and wet. Yet mini seconds later (you guess it!) his strands our Vitalized ™ down into its usual neatness. (thanks Susan Schnitzer)

93. THE MAGIC SECRET
The first scene in Perry's Office, we see Clark leaning on the Intercom with his RIGHT arm (his left arm is on Perry's desk). It then makes a quick cut; with Clark's LEFT arm now on the Intercom (and his right arm off-camera)..!?

When the "D.P." staff are first discussing the Levitation trick, Clark says to Perry, "Didn't you use to belong to the AMATEUR Magic Society and do this very same trick??" However, a few minutes later, Clark tells Jimmy that Perry could be expelled from the "Society of AMERICAN Magicians"; if he reveals the secret to this trick. (thanks in part to Jim Nolt)

Jimmy brings in the newspaper to show Lois about the 'Magician' want ad. Listen carefully as Lois says, "Make people disappear, saw a woman in half... uummm, there's a decent thought." As she says the last portion, you can hear a very audible 'thump' of sorts in the background!! (Possibly someone in the Crew; off-camera!?!?)

When Lois is being stubborn about going into the concrete hole, Mr. Griswald stumbles on his line: "I was hoping you wouldn't make it more...(any)more difficult than necessary."

A question: Climbing up out of the concrete hole such as he does (yeah; right), how does Jimmy suddenly end up at the very far LEFT at the top of this hole??? It would be impossible to be all the way over to ANY one side!!!

There's a few scenes of Lois before and after Superman's levitation trick where we can see the shadow of the steel(?) bar that supported Noel for this stunt. (For THAT matter, how is there sunshine down in a 60 foot hole; casting ANY shadow???)

94. DIVIDE AND CONQUER
As in #103 below, the close-up we see of Clark looking for the Bomb in President Bateo's Office shows him with different glasses!!! (more rounded or 'horn-rimmed' than what he was wearing)

After Superman crashes through the wall (rather spectacularly, too!!) to save President Bateo from the Bomb blast. he's covered in dust. When he's then seen standing behind Bateo, all the dust is gone!? (NOTE: this also happens after Superman crashes through the wall of the caved-in Mine near the end--dust and then NO dust!! Dave Orbach adds: "If you look closely, he dusts himself off as he walks over to the people he rescued. I guess he dusted himself off at super-speed!!")

A 'continuity' flub: After saving Bateo from this bomb in his Office, Superman is shown standing with his hands in front of him; behind Bateo -- in a distant shot. In the close-up, he then grabs Bateo's arms when Obreon says to "Arrest Superman." When it cuts back to that distant shot, Supe's arms are again in front of him -- and, then again holding Bateo in the close-up!?

In one scene, Professor Lucerne is actually reading from his script -- you can hear him turn the page!! (thanks to Gary L. and 'TAC, Jr.')

Vice President Obreon, Felipe and a Guard are outside of Supe's jail cell; discussing how (the now weakened) Superman seemed to act afraid of the crowd below and at a gun pointed at him. Felipe says, "Perhaps the legend of Superman is only a Myth!?" Obreon then replies, "If that is true, he would make a convenient ESCAPE goat!!". (He meant to say SCAPE goat!!)

NOTE: notice the budget restrictions again in '57; as we see Superman drill down through a CARTOON-like Mine to save his trapped co-stars!!

95. THE MYSTERIOUS CUBE
When Superman lands at the cube for the first time, there is NO "landing" sound!?

Near the end, as Paul Barton exits the Cube (thinking he's a free man), Inspector Henderson arrests him; saying, "it's exactly 5 minutes BEFORE noon" -- without going into ALL the details, Superman had the Navy speed up their clock to gain seconds each hour; thereby making Barton's "Naval Observatory" clock run FAST- Barton then replies to Henderson, "5 minutes BEFORE noon?? That's impossible. My clock couldn't be running that SLOW." (he should have said "that FAST!!" (thanks to Colin Duff)

A question: How did Paul Barton dispose of unwanted bodily fluids, etc., during his 7 years in the Cube?? It must have been pretty messy in there. He also must have had a great supply of vitamins & cigarettes to last 7 years!! (thanks to Colin Duff)

What type of acid does Barton use to erode the material that is impervious to Superman's strength and heat vision?  What type of container would you keep it in that wouldn't melt down or corrode?  I sure hope Barton didn't have the formula for the acid or any left over, because if so, Superman's got something to worry about.  Query:  If Superman's powers could not harm or budge the Cube, how would anyone be able to move or tear it down?  In theory, Superman could get a hernia just trying to haul it away!  (R. Steven Smith)

96. THE ATOMIC CAPTIVE
You can (embarrasingly) see the breast plate that George lays on; as he pitifully thrashes about ~ trying to 'reverse' the Atom Bomb blast.

97. SUPERMAN SILVER MINE
When Superman lands into Perry White's office to meet Mr. Pebble, notice the wall towards the right of the screen: you can see the shadow of George Reeves enter the picture moments before he lands; obviously preparing to jump into the scene on cue. (thanks to Charles Kim)

Dabbs Greer has a dual role, but four names: Mr. Pebble, Mr. Peeble, Doby and Toby. (thanks to Gary Lojacono)

98. THE BIG FORGET
An observation: on EVERY other occasion, anybody hit with the Anti-Memory spray INSTANTLY forgot where they were and what they were doing. Yet, Superman sprays everyone, then unties Jimmy; who says, "Thanks, Mr. Kent!" Obviously, the spray didn't work right that time!! (thanks to Michael J. Hayde)

Another observation: Superman sprayed out the anti-memory vapor, and THEN he blew away the poison gas. Wouldn't he run the risk of blowing out the anti-memory vapor also?? (thanks to Billl)

I did the counting on this one!  Superman tells Henderson to start countingl.  When Superman lands outside Muggsy's place, Henderson is at "96"...I counted after that, slow but steady cadence.  When Henderson says "402, 403..." he should have been at 174-175.  And when he says "712,713"...he should have bee at 257-258! (Thanks to Jimmy Barnes)

Lois, Jimmy, Perry, Henderson, and Superman all entered Muggsy's office illegally at various times.  Muggsy gives the name "Horatio Maples" but his front door room 307 says, "J.G. Maples. (Thanks to Jimmy Barnes)

When Jimmy accidentally gases himself, granted might have forgotten the last 15 minutes, but sincce he does know who Muggsy Maples is, he should have recognized him, plus the name is on the front door he backs out of. (Thanks to Jimmy Barnes)

99. THE GENTLE MONSTER
As in #95, there is NO "landing" sound when Superman lands near Pepperwinkle's place.

100. SUPERMAN'S WIFE
When the cast is trapped on the ocean floor in the bathysphere, George reaches up and unscrews the plate connecting it to the cable and then proceeds the draw the cable inside the bathysphere to raise it. This is impossible to do as depicted. George would have to hang upside down and exert pressure on the ceiling of the bathysphere with his feet in order to raise it. Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I don't believe it could be accomplished as shown. (thanks to Ken)

Near the end, as Lois pushes on the Bathysphere door, it appears that someone (stage crew??) is "holding" the door from the other side. You can see "pressure" on the door ease up; just before Superman kicks it open.

In "Superman's Wife", a  moving shadow (a crew member?) can be seen cast onto the interior of the bathysphere. It would seem that in this scene the bathysphere was  merely a three-sided prop. Thanks     Js D'Angelo

101. THREE IN ONE
As Pallini, the Human Fly, is scaling the wall to a safe, you can see dirt/dust on his suit. When he gets IN the room, the dirt has vanished!!

Lois says to the jailed Superman, "With Clark still missing, we're a bit short-handed on this 'Flying Burglar' story; but Mr. Kent's trying to get a hold of Jimmy (and) take him off the Feature 'til Clark gets back". She obviously meant Mr. WHITE is trying to get a hold of Jimmy......

When Harmon The Great picks up his handcuffs in the tent, the shadow of a moving microphone can be seen, and also where Pillini is pulling up Harmon by rope, a video slo-mo reveals that at one point Pallini (Rick Vallin) has only one had on the rope! (Thanks to Jimmy Barnes)

In Jail, Harmon The Great (Sid Tomack) is seen wearing his suit and tie...No jail....then or now...would have allowed an inmate to possess a necktie...nor Superman a cape, also in a scene where Superman is in jail, Henderson tells Superman, "We've got a pretty good case against you,"  The issue of fingerprints is conveniently ignored. (Thanks to Jimmy Barnes)

While Jim Olsen's vest and shirt appear soaked after Superman pulls him out of the trunk, the straight-jacket appears to be totally dry, and the tiny rope that Atlas supposedly uses to scale the Chapman building would never have supported his enormous girth.  (Thanks to Jimmy Barnes)

102. THE BRAINY BURRO
Superman visibly tugs on Carmelita's reins; to get her to nod her head.

THE BRAINY BURRO has got to be smarter than this episode credits her with! Carmelita has a stiff peg leg (always the same one) that clumps down on a wooden surface. (thanks Susan Schnitzer)

Each time we see Carmelita's hoof; scratching or 'counting' on the outdoor ground, you'll notice a poor attempt at covering a wooden Sound Stage floor with sand; and we can HEAR the wooden 'thump', too!!

103. THE PERILS OF SUPERMAN
Another visual, stock footage problem: When the lead gangster (Michael Fox) is in Perry's office and talks about how Superman won't be able to see through his lead mask, there is a close up of Clark's face; followed by the usual "X-Ray" vision shot of just his eyes. Take a close look at the frames of his glasses - there's a marked difference between them in the two shots. (thanks to Michael J. Hayde). (His glasses in this episode were not as 'round' or 'horn-rimmed' as the 'stock footage' glasses; no doubt from 1954)

As Superman juts out his chest ~ to break the teeth of the large saw ~ we can see he is actually about one foot AWAY from the blades. Bad camera angle!!! Randy Garrett pointed out that you can actually see the 'steel' bar that was inserted into the Saw blades; the bar that actually broke the blades. (See this bar in the lower left corner of his "Perils....." composite)

An observation: When Superman gets out of the vat of acid, his right foot momentarily gets caught up in his wet Cape!!  (thanks to Brad Cressley)

Superman is covered with dust after crashing through a wall. A moment later, the dust is gone. Bear in mind--in this particular scene, his costume is wet from the acid bath. So the dust would stick, it wouldn't just blow off before he flies away!! (thanks to Billl)

(In addition to the above) George had just come out of this acid bath; soaking wet. But, in the VERY next shot (after he crashed through the wall), his hair and his costume are bone dry!!! The scene would have worked a whole lot better if George had shot it while he was still wet. (thanks to Harvey J. Gilmore)

The car that Jimmy is driving on the curving mountain road looks like it is a 2-Door; while the car that goes over the cliff and is burning at the foot of the cliff appears to be a 4-door!! (thanks to Rick Swader)

When Superman rescues Jimmy at the end, the "landing" sound occurs a second or so AFTER Superman lands. (thanks to Billl)

When Jimmy is hanging on the cliff and yelling for help, Superman lands, reaches for him and pulls him up ----- while in the background we hear him say, "I see".....!?!? (thanks to Rick Swader)

Also, Jimmy lets go of the cliff BEFORE Superman grabs his hands. (thanks to Rick Swader)

104. ALL THAT GLITTER
It's quite obvious that the mouse is being PUSHED against its will; rather than PULLING the heavy safe!!

Clark's hat appears and disappears at will; thanks to careless editing of stock footage. In this 'color' episode, Kent runs out of Perry's office wearing a hat, but it disappears by the time he gets to the Store Room!! (thanks to Randy Garrett).
