Mr. X

By Jim Nolt

Many words have been used to describe George Reeves. One that comes quickly to mind is "generous." He was generous to his friends, he was generous to his community, and he was generous to us, his fans. All who read the stories in "Close Encounters" and the other sections of my web site and magazine know that George went out of his way for others.

A few of us have tried to return the favor. One special person that comes to mind is Mr. X. No, not that suave and debonair infamous Mr. X who smooth-talked his way into Metropolis and almost got away with an armored truck (filled with money) on the dirt roads leading into the city. No, I'm talking about a modern-day Mr. X. This latter-day Mr. X, though possibly not as suave and sophisticated as his predecessor, has much more to be proud of. This Mr. X didn't aspire to take, but rather to give. For more than an entire year he gave of his time, knowledge, and expertise to provide us, the fans of the Adventures of Superman, with a full set of episodes, in order, and as complete as possible... yet asked nothing for himself. Instead, payment for his time and effort, worth many thousands of dollars, went directly to one of George's favorite charities, the Myasthenia Foundation of America. And so for his skills and generosity... his unselfishness and dedication...

I'd like to honor Mr. X with induction into the George Reeves Hall of Fame.

"Maybe I'm lucky... or maybe they're super people." That's what comes to mind when I think about the many readers of my web site and magazine. In the more than fifteen years I helped raise funds for Myasthenia Gravis (in George's name), not one person who pledged money failed it send it in. Not one person who wrote a check failed to make good on it. And so, I believe that everyone who contributed should hereby receive honorary mention in the George Reeves Hall of Fame.
