Don  Holmes

(Mr. Bloopers)

By Carl Glass

Several months ago, an email was waiting for me from Mr. Bloopers himself, Don Holmes.  In that mail, he had explained to me that he was ready to release the famous Blooper’s Page into the capable hands of someone who had the enthusiasm, love and passion for George Reeves, and to continue the work.  He explained that his schedule was just not conducive for it anymore and wanted to move on to other things.  However, his love for TAOS had not diminished in any way.

Don had informed me that he had checked with people he had confidence in for a replacement.  I was humbled to learn that the overwhelming response was for yours truly, Carl Glass.  The only way to describe the feeling was an experience of surrealism. Later, by telephone I explained to Don that consideration for creating a website was on the agenda, and after consenting, I knew in my heart that the Bloopers Page would have a home.

Don demonstrated much patience and understanding in this undertaking, and through the guidance, and the wisdom of Don, this has now become a reality. Leslie and I truly respect all the hard work and effort Don has done through over the years to make this the best Bloopers Page on the face of the earth.  It is our honor and great task to carry on this legacy.

Don was born in Niagara Falls, N.Y. in March 1950 and lived there until the day he graduated from high school in 1968. He would then move to North East Ohio to pursue life in a Rock & Roll band. Don continued to live in that region of the state until 2002, then relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area to start life anew with the love of his life, Lizzy.

Don’s love affair with The Adventures of Superman started in 1955. His biggest memories are not of certain episodes, but of those great Preview segments from the 1951 shows…Bill Kennedy’s narration…and those action sequences were as exciting as the episodes…maybe even more. Don also recalls he was only 5 years old and wouldn’t have had the patience to sit through and understand one of those 1951 episodes, but he certainly remembers those “Previews...short and sweet!!”

When I asked Don, “What Did George Reeves mean to him then and now?  His response was, “George simply WAS Superman. Maybe this will not be appreciated by his many fans, but I never cared about George outside of Superman…about George the actor. He was and still is Superman to me. No one could have played the role like him…period!”

Where did Don get the concept of his Blooper Page? In his own words he says, “I started listing all those inconsistencies I’d always noticed on paper and when I got my old Web TV in 1998, they gave me free Web Space and I started to list them on line. I then put out the word that I’d like other folks to send me their Bloopers and I would add them and credit them to the sender: which I did. Ninety-nine percent  (99%) of the uncredited Bloopers on my page (now Carl’s page) are the ones I uncovered myself.  I wasn’t about to add my own name to them all…LOL! I’m glad to see the good work Carl’s continued to do with those pages.  I just no longer had the time and feel it’s in good hands now.”

For this great achievement, it is with honor and distinction that Don Holmes is an official inductee into the George Reeves Hall of Fame. Welcome Don, you are so deserving of it!
