Once in a great while
someone comes along to capture an interest in a special and
unique way. Whether it be writing or illustrating, being
able to create and develop a subject that lays close to the
heart is what makes having a talent fun. Artistically,
The Adventures of Superman has inspired a rare
few--Randy Garrett, Andrew Aragon, Richard Taylor, and Ron
Gross. These are the kind of individuals that are taking
their talents and applying it to what they love, creating
something unique and different for others to enjoy.
Recently, a fellow by the name of Jerry Newingham came along
with something very different. His work Destiny’s Choice
could be considered highly innovative even by today’s
standards of computer work. While comic book story telling
is nothing new to the communication world of the Internet,
Jerry does it in his own slightly different way. In fact, in
my opinion, it raises the bar on comic book story telling
and what could be done if explored to greater lengths.
You will undoubtedly find many inspiration’s in Jerry’s
work. The skills and the manner in which the story is told
is a fun approach to comic books. This is nothing short of a
wonderful experience, combining nostalgic characters with
various modern ones.
Personally, I hate to see a good thing end. That’s why
seeing the familiar faces from 50’s television The
Adventures of Superman--utilized in this new fashion--is
thrilling. It’s exciting to see an enjoyable story that
leaves you hanging on in perilous cliff-hander, movie serial
style. I wish Jerry the very best with this new format and
most of all that you the reader enjoy it as well. I’m
confident you will.
"Up, up and away."
